Bill Woodward School students learning on a trap line

Bill Woodward School students recently spent three days on the trap line. The students learned how to make and set rabbit and wolf snares. They also learned how to boil the snares with willow to remove their scent. During the trip, the students caught six rabbits and learned how to skin them. On Monday, December 16th, students returned to the bait station. Upon their return, they discovered they caught a coyote!

In the Northland School Division (NSD), educators and Indigenous Language Instructors, with support from Elders and community members, weave Indigenous language and culture and land-based learning into the curriculum. This work aligns with the Board’s priorities and helps NSD students become strong in identity, healthy and successful.
